Israeli aircraft conducted a strike on Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh, on June 7. The Lebanon health ministry reported that the strikes killed two people and wounded 20 others. Lebanese state media initially reported two dead and 11 injured.

Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel later that day, the first such attack since a ceasefire took effect in early April. Israeli defense systems intercepted the missiles, sirens sounded in several areas, and multiple explosions were heard in northern Israel.

The Israeli military warned of a possible second barrage. Israel says Iran has launched missiles at it in the first such bombardment since a ceasefire began in April.

Brigadier General Effie Defrin, the IDF spokesman, said Iran had made a grave mistake and that Israel remained prepared for further attacks in the coming hours. He added that Israeli forces would continue operations throughout Lebanon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister said in a joint statement that the Dahiyeh operation responded to Hezbollah fire toward Israeli territory.

U.S. President Donald Trump told Axios he would contact Netanyahu to discourage retaliation. “Each of them had their fun,” Trump said. Trump told The Post “things are going well” after Iran bombed Israel and advised Netanyahu not to fire back at Iran. Trump told Fortune he was “not happy about” Israeli strikes on Lebanon.

The U.S. military destroyed two drones over the Strait of Hormuz. Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority closed the country’s airspace for 72 hours, and Syria’s aviation authority imposed a 12-hour closure.

Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei in Tehran on June 7, carrying a message from Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency. Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since he was named the Islamic Republic’s ruler after his father was killed on February 28.

Israel’s military opened an investigation into the June 5 killing of a seven-month-old Palestinian infant by an Israeli soldier in the West Bank.
