Iran says Israeli strikes in Lebanon endanger US ceasefire
Iran stated that Israeli attacks on Hezbollah targets in Beirut violate a broader ceasefire agreement with the United States. Israeli forces struck southern Beirut suburbs twice since the Lebanon truce began on 16 April.
israelnationalnews.comForeign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the agreement covers all fronts and that a violation in one area breaks the truce everywhere.
Iranian state media reported that Tehran could suspend indirect talks with Washington if the offensive continues. Iran's Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said Iran and its allies might activate other fronts including the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
State television in Iran said the probability of the US ceasefire ending is high unless Israel stops its operations in Lebanon.
Tensions also rose in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend. Brent crude rose almost $5 a barrel to $97.44 on Monday. The three-month war has closed the Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
