Iran has suspended its communications with the United States through intermediaries following Israel's Monday strikes on Beirut. The decision ends weeks of indirect discussions intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart formal peace talks. The IRGC-linked Tasnim News Agency posted on X that the suspension was made in response to what it described as violations of a ceasefire in Lebanon.

The statement said the Iranian negotiating team was halting "discussions and exchanges of texts through intermediaries" while the strikes continued.

The agency added that Iran would not resume dialogue until Israeli operations in Gaza and Lebanon ended and Israeli forces withdrew from occupied areas in Lebanon. It said these conditions had been emphasized by Iranian officials and negotiators. Iran also indicated it would pursue the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and activate other fronts, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, to punish what it called the Zionists and their supporters.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
