The ministry added that diplomatic missions had been damaged. Kuwait ordered two Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 24 hours and summoned Iran's charge d'affaires. Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the strike.
The attack occurred at a new passenger terminal that had opened recently as part of airport expansion efforts. Kuwaiti officials walked through the rubble at the terminal to assess the damage on the same day. Damage assessments inside the terminal building are ongoing.
Repairs to the affected areas are expected to begin after the initial evaluation is complete. The Indian foreign ministry condemned the attack. "We again call upon parties to cease such attacks," the ministry said.
U.S. forces struck and disabled an unladen oil tanker sailing towards Iran using a Hellfire missile fired into its engine room. S. forces also shot down three attack drones launched by Iran toward civilian mariners in regional waters.
Centcom said Iran had fired two missiles at Kuwait and three at Bahrain, all of which broke apart or were intercepted. S. strikes occurred on an Iranian oil tanker and Qeshm Island. S. naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz began on 13 April.
U.S. and Iran stalled, with a deal to end the war failing to advance over the weekend.
