Iranian Missile Attack on Jordan Draws UAE Condemnation

The United Arab Emirates condemned an Iranian missile attack targeting Jordan, describing it as a violation of the kingdom's sovereignty and a threat to its security. In a statement on X, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full solidarity with Jordan and support for measures to protect its stability.

The Gulf Cooperation Council issued a statement calling on the UN Security Council to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement held Iran responsible for attacks on shipping and demanded an immediate end to hostilities. An economist stated that China received nearly two-thirds of the extra five to six million barrels per day that flowed during a recent pause in fighting.

The same economist noted that U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve levels remain near multi-decade lows.

Ministry reported that at least 73,118 Palestinians have been killed and 173,615 wounded since October 2023. The ministry added that 1,092 Palestinians have been killed and 3,507 wounded since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect last October. Iran's Foreign Minister spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart about the current state of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, according to Turkish state media.
