Iranian drones and missiles struck Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring more than 60 others while damaging Terminal 1 facilities. Kuwait closed the airport for several hours after the attack. Kuwait Airways later resumed operations from another terminal.

Kuwait expelled two Iranian diplomats and summoned Iran's charge d'affaires in direct response to the strike. The building had reopened only on Monday after repairs from earlier Iranian hits.

The attack formed part of an exchange that also included U.S. strikes on an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz and on a communications tower on Iran's Qeshm island. Iran fired at a container ship and at the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

The U.S. said additional missiles aimed at Kuwait fell short or broke apart in flight.
