Iron Dome Intercepts Iranian Missile Fragments Near Israel Border

Israel's Iron Dome air defense system shot down fragments of an Iranian ballistic missile near the border with Jordan on July 19, 2026, after the U.S. Aegis anti-missile system had already intercepted the primary warhead. The event marked the first use of Iron Dome against an Iranian aerial threat since the April 7 ceasefire, with no aerial threats from Iran approaching Israel in more than three months before that date.

Interception fragments fell in northern Eilat with no casualties reported. Jordan's military intercepted three missiles during the same attack, which caused no casualties or damage inside Jordan, according to Jordanian state media. IDF sources stated that Eilat was not hit by any missile and that the military is reviewing whether shrapnel fell within Israeli territory.

A separate IDF source said no missile fragments landed inside Israeli territory. Minutes before the interception, the IDF issued a warning to residents in southern areas near the Jordan border to prepare to enter safe areas if fragments fell in Israel. No immediate signs of Israeli retaliation emerged.
