Isa Torres, All-American shortstop, commits to Texas after leaving Florida State
Georgetown, Texas native and national player of the year finalist Isa Torres announced her commitment to the Longhorns on June 16, 2026, via Instagram.

Isa Torres, a first-team All-American shortstop and 2026 ACC Player of the Year, committed to Texas softball on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The Georgetown, Texas native announced the decision on Instagram and included a childhood photo of herself wearing a Texas football jersey. Torres had announced her departure from Florida State on June 8.
She had started nearly every game for the Seminoles over three seasons. 530 batting average, hit 16 home runs and drove in 56 runs. She also set an NCAA record with 16 consecutive hits during the season.
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make,” Torres said in her announcement. “Florida State has given me more than I could ever put into words.
This decision is not about leaving something behind. It is about pursuing a new opportunity and embracing a new challenge. ” Texas enters the 2027 season with an opening at second base after Leighann Goode departed for the AUSL.
Returning shortstop Viviana Martinez could shift positions if Torres takes over at shortstop. Torres joins returning SEC Player of the Year Katie Stewart and ace pitcher Teagan Kavan on a roster that coach Mike White is building after back-to-back national titles.
