Alexander Isak completed a £125 million transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool last September after going on strike to force the move. The Sweden forward scored four goals during the 2025-26 season and missed four months after fracturing his ankle and fibula in December. He played 21 percent of Liverpool's Premier League minutes.

Liverpool's campaign Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League, 25 points behind champions Arsenal. The club has begun formal talks with a new manager after the season ended. Isak scored a goal for Sweden in a 3-1 friendly loss to Norway on Monday. Club officials said they view his limited playing time as a one-off and expect improved performance once he is fully fit.

Newcastle's campaign Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League after selling their leading scorer. The team converted 34.4 percent of big chances this season, down from 41.1 percent the previous year. Newcastle appointed a chief executive and sporting director after the Isak departure.

Head coach Eddie Howe said the club had to rebuild its attack in a short period before the transfer window closed. "It was a pivotal time for us because Alex was such an important player," Howe said at a recent news conference. " Newcastle created 90 big chances but converted only 31.

The team also dropped 27 points from winning positions during the campaign.
