Israel Strikes Beirut Suburb, Second Attack on Capital Since Ceasefire
The Israel Defense Forces conducted a strike on Beirut's Dahieh district on Thursday. The attack followed earlier strikes in southern Lebanon and came amid mutual accusations of ceasefire violations by Israel and Hezbollah.
naturalnews.comThe Israel Defense Forces said it carried out a strike on Beirut at about 14:00 local time. The military described the attack as conducted in a "targeted manner" but provided no further details on the target. Israeli media reported that the intended target was Ali al-Husni, described as head of the missile force in the Imam Hossein Division, an Iranian militia allied with Hezbollah.
Thick smoke rose over residential buildings in Dahieh after the strike.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli strikes hit Tyre and areas east of the city, killing at least 11 people according to the Lebanese health ministry. Videos showed flames and smoke in the streets, and rescue crews later halted operations after receiving warnings from Israeli forces.
On Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces ordered residents to move north of the Zahrani River, covering about 300 towns and villages. The order was the largest evacuation directive since the ceasefire began.
A separate strike in Saida killed five people and injured 21 when a missile hit a residential building at approximately 02:40. The building owner said the tenant had been a civilian renting the apartment for three years. Israeli officials stated that Hezbollah attacks violate the ceasefire agreement between the Israeli and Lebanese governments.
Lebanese officials have described the Israeli strikes as violations of the same agreement. The escalation comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an expansion of ground operations following Hezbollah drone attacks on Israeli troops and civilians.
More than 3,280 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the war, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
