Israeli Strike Kills at Least 2, Wounds 12 at Gaza Seaport Cafe, Medics Say

An Israeli strike hit a crowded cafe at the Gaza seaport on May 31, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding 12 others, according to medics in Gaza. The cafe was packed with people celebrating public holidays at the time of the strike, health officials said. The same casualty figures were reported by medics at the scene.

The strike occurred at the emergency seaport in Gaza City, a floating dock off the coast that was meant to be temporary. Palestinians gathered at the site after the attack, according to Reuters photographer Dawoud Abu Alkas. There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials on the strike.

A ceasefire has been in effect in Gaza since October 2025. Israeli strikes have continued in the territory since then. Gaza health officials, who do not distinguish between combatants and civilians in their counts, say some 900 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes during that period.

The Israeli military has said four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in the same timeframe.

The ceasefire left Israel in control of more than half of Gaza, with Hamas controlling a sliver of coastal territory. Israel and Hamas remain deadlocked in indirect talks over the second phase of the ceasefire deal, which includes the group's disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals.
