Hezbollah Fires Over 50 Projectiles; Israel Strikes Military Sites in Lebanon, Ceasefire Renewed

Israeli forces conducted airstrikes across multiple towns in southern Lebanon on Saturday morning. Lebanese authorities reported at least 16 people killed and 12 wounded in the attacks. Rescue teams worked in the Nabatieh district, moving casualties to hospitals after strikes struck several towns.

The Lebanese news agency NNA reported that an airstrike on Arabsalim killed three people and a drone strike on Deir al-Zahrani killed one. At least seven people remained trapped under rubble. Lebanon’s army reported that one of its soldiers was killed between Kfar Rumman and Nabatieh.

The Israel Defense Forces stated that Hezbollah had fired more than 50 projectiles at Israeli troops overnight and that Israeli forces responded by striking Hezbollah targets. “The IDF remains committed to the ceasefire agreement,” the IDF statement said. Hezbollah said it had adhered to the ceasefire since Friday evening and accused Israel of fabricating claims to justify the attacks.

President Donald Trump said he had asked Israel to halt its strikes on Lebanon. Israel’s ambassador to the United States said the country would cease offensive operations. The United States announced that Israel and Hezbollah had implemented a fresh ceasefire at Trump’s request.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Saturday as part of ongoing mediation. Officials from Tehran and Washington had been scheduled to begin 60 days of negotiations in Switzerland on Friday, but those talks were postponed.

A memorandum of understanding signed earlier this week committed both sides to an immediate end to all fighting, including in Lebanon.
