Israeli Military Reports Advance Past Litani River in Southern Lebanon

Israeli officials announced that troops have advanced past the Litani River in southern Lebanon. The statement was made during a period of continued military operations in the region.

The Israeli military reported intercepting a drone over southern Lebanon after air alerts sounded in the border community of Hanita. Officials said the drone was considered hostile and was downed near positions held by Israeli forces. Israeli forces also issued displacement orders for additional villages in southern Lebanon, directing residents to leave areas where operations against Hezbollah fighters are planned.

The military stated the orders were issued to allow targeting of those fighters.

UNICEF reported that 15 children were killed and 62 injured in Lebanon over the past seven days. The agency described the numbers as staggering and noted that 77 children were killed or injured according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. Iranian state media reported that a draft memorandum between the United States and Iran has been revised in recent days and is not yet final.

The reports cited an unnamed source stating that some published details about the potential agreement are inaccurate. US sources told Al Jazeera that a preliminary framework would extend a ceasefire for 60 days and begin talks to end the war, pending final approval.

The framework reportedly includes measures such as lifting a naval blockade and allowing unrestricted commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
