The Lebanese army said the strike occurred on the road between Khardali and Nabatieh. Officials confirmed multiple deaths but released no names, ranks, or information on whether the vehicle was moving or stationary.
Incident The deaths come days after Lebanon and Israel announced a conditional truce following talks in the United States. The Lebanese army has historically avoided direct involvement in confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel. The same day, the Palestinian health ministry reported that Israeli forces killed a seven-month-old infant and wounded his parents near Hebron in the West Bank.
His grandmother said the family stopped their car near Checkpoint 17 after seeing Israeli military vehicles, then heard shots they initially believed were warnings. "One bullet struck my grandson, traversed his face and crossed his head, striking his mother's cheek where it lodged," she said.
The Israeli military stated that soldiers perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them during operational activity in the Hebron area and fired single shots. It said three Palestinians were wounded and that an initial inquiry found the injured were "uninvolved civilians," with the incident now under review.
The area around Tel Rumeida in Hebron has long been a flashpoint, with more than 700,000 Israeli settlers living among over three million Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, according to a 2024 European Union report.
