Jacob deGrom will miss his next scheduled start for the Texas Rangers and will not be immediately available after the All-Star break because of a glute and hip strain, manager Skip Schumaker said Friday. DeGrom, 38, was removed from his most recent outing Tuesday after throwing 80 pitches over five innings.
He has carried a front-leg strain through much of his career, and the issue has usually subsided in time for his following start.
Schumaker said the Rangers may place deGrom on the injured list. The club instead plans to have him skip Sunday’s scheduled start against the Houston Astros and use the four-day All-Star break for recovery. "We're just kind of wait and see how he recovers," Schumaker said.
DeGrom entered the break with a 7-5 record and a 3.49 ERA in 18 starts this season.
