Victor Wembanyama Signs Five-Year Extension With San Antonio Spurs

Victor Wembanyama agreed to a five-year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs that could exceed $250 million, the richest deal in franchise history. The sides announced the agreement on July 10, 2026. Wembanyama accepted less than the maximum possible value of more than $300 million over five years to preserve salary-cap flexibility for the team.

He will earn about $16.8 million in the 2026-27 season under his current rookie contract. The extension starts in 2027-28 at approximately $43.5 million and includes a $57.5 million player option for the 2031-32 season. Wembanyama wrote on social media the same day, “Spurs family, I’m here to stay.

The Spurs described the agreement only as a multi-year contract extension. In the 2025-26 season Wembanyama was named unanimous Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-NBA honors. He averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, led the league in blocks for the third straight year, and finished third in MVP voting.

The Spurs finished 62-20 and reached the NBA Finals, where they lost in five games to the New York Knicks. “It’s painful,” Wembanyama said after the Finals. “But I’m not running away from that.
