Japan Airlines to Add Daily Nonstop Flights from San Diego to Tokyo

Japan Airlines will increase nonstop flights between San Diego International Airport and Tokyo Narita from four per week to daily beginning August 1. San Diego International Airport said the change responds to a 42 percent increase in passenger travel between San Diego and Asia recorded between 2023 and 2025. Officials attributed the growth to tourism, business, and visits to family and friends.
Airlines has operated the San Diego-Tokyo route since 2012. The airport authority stated that more than 30 Japanese companies have invested about $8.7 billion in San Diego County during that period. Passengers on the route can connect onward to more than a dozen destinations across Asia. Tickets are now on sale.
Service from San Francisco In May, San Francisco International Airport announced a separate nonstop service to Sapporo, Japan. United Airlines will operate three weekly flights from San Francisco to Sapporo beginning in December 2026, the first such service from the continental United States to that city.
United Airlines said the seasonal flights will run through March 27 and serve the winter ski season. The airline quoted fares starting at $1,500 and rising to $1,700 by March.
