Japan's Lower House Extends Diet Session to July 25

The House of Representatives approved an eight-day extension of the current Diet session on July 17, pushing the end date to July 25, Japan Times reported. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi fielded questions from reporters that day as lawmakers prepared for the shortened schedule. The extension leaves effectively three days for deliberation on pending bills.

One measure scheduled for consideration would establish a secondary national capital. The ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party hopes to pass the Japan Innovation Party-proposed bill before the session closes.
