New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean Jr. released a statement on Monday addressing his personal medical issue, which has kept him absent from Capitol Hill for weeks. The 57-year-old Republican representing North Jersey last cast a House vote on March 5 and has missed dozens of votes since then.
New York Post reported that Kean thanked his colleagues for their patience while he addresses the issue. ' He added: 'I also want to thank my friends and colleagues on both sides of the aisle for their patience and understanding during this time. ' New York Post reported that Kean's office had declined to publicly disclose his health issue prior to the statement.
Fellow New Jersey GOP members were informed about Kean's absence reason late last week. Kean is running for reelection in a competitive district. A House leader stated on Thursday: 'I was happy to speak to Tom Kean, Jr. this afternoon by phone. ' A representative died last week.
New York Post reported that five representatives have died since the current session of Congress began in January 2025.
