New Jersey Democratic Sen. Andy Kim said Thursday that criticism of conditions at Newark’s Delaney Hall detention facility was not about his own experience with pepper-ball spray. Kim stated he was willing to accept the risk and was instead focused on treatment of people inside the facility.

He said the Department of Homeland Security is overseeing what he described as inhumane conditions and awarding a contract to a Boca Raton-based company.

Mullin told Fox News Digital that Kim was spreading a false narrative and engaging in political theater. S. immigration law, including those convicted of serious crimes, and provides medical care, housing, and meals. Mullin added that DHS enforces laws passed by Congress and that local officials in Newark should handle barricade removal and access control during protests.

Witnesses reported that demonstrators returned to Delaney Hall on Thursday morning. Earlier protests this week remained largely peaceful during daylight hours before shifting to masked participants after sundown, according to the same accounts. New Jersey Assemblyman Paul Kanitra noted that the food vendor at Delaney Hall also serves Giants Stadium.
