Jim Kelly Says He Suffered Stroke This Spring but Feels Really Good
Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly disclosed that he suffered a stroke this spring and spent several days in the hospital. He made the comments Tuesday at the ribbon-cutting for the Buffalo Bills' new stadium and said recent scans are clean.

Jim Kelly said he suffered a stroke this spring and spent a few days in the hospital but currently feels really good. ESPN reported that the former Buffalo Bills quarterback spoke with reporters Tuesday at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the team's new stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. Kelly, 66, described the episode as a little setback about a month and a half ago.
"My hearing still sucks, but that's part of life," Kelly said. He added that his recent scans have come back clean. "Everything's good. All good," he said. Kelly has dealt with multiple cancer diagnoses and related procedures.
He had surgery in 2013 to remove squamous cell carcinoma of the upper jawbone, underwent chemotherapy in 2014 after cancer was found in his maxillary sinus, and had additional surgeries in 2018 to remove oral cancer and reconstruct his upper jaw. Kelly played for the Bills from 1986 to 1996 and appeared in four consecutive Super Bowls. He received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance in 2018.
Kelly said he is looking ahead to the 2026 regular-season home opener against the Detroit Lions in September at the new Highmark Stadium and hopes to enjoy many years there with his grandson.
