John Daly Says He Wants Role on 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup Team After Tiger Woods Rules Out Captaincy

John Daly said he wants to serve as co-captain or in another role for the U.S. team at the 2027 Ryder Cup, though Tiger Woods has already ruled himself out of the captaincy. Daly spoke in an interview with Hard Rock Bet on July 14, 2026.

“Tiger would be an unbelievable captain. I would love to be a co-captain or just be a part of it somehow,” he said. He added that he would like to be captain one day but knows that will not happen. Daly has won two major championships yet never appeared in a Ryder Cup, making him the only major champion since the event began in 1927 to miss out.

He said he believes he should have made two teams. “I didn’t play good enough, so I didn’t get on them,” Daly said.S. captaincy in April 2026, according to the PGA of America, after stepping away from golf to focus on his health.

Luke Donald will captain Team Europe for the third straight time. Daly also said winning the 1995 Open Championship at St Andrews remains his career highlight.
