Jon Rahm Gets Code-of-Conduct Warning After Throwing Club at Open Championship

Jon Rahm received a code-of-conduct warning Friday during the Open Championship for throwing his club after a poor tee shot on the par-3 15th hole at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England. Rahm hit his tee shot left of the green and flung his iron forward, with the club bouncing several times. He shot 3-under 67 and stood four shots out of the lead after the round, ESPN reported.

The R&A issued the warning under its serious misconduct policy. A second incident would bring a two-shot penalty, and a third violation would result in disqualification. Rahm said he did not think about the outburst until he saw an R&A official on the 17th hole.

"When he was walking up to me, I knew exactly what it was for," he said. This marked the third conduct ruling in the majors in 2026, ESPN reported.
