Jose Ramirez Fractures Left Hand as Guardians Defeat Tigers 3-1
Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez fractured his left hamate bone on a swing Saturday and was placed on the 10-day injured list. The Guardians activated infielder Gabriel Arias and designated outfielder George Valera for assignment.

The 33-year-old switch-hitter sustained the fractured left hamate bone leading off the inning and left the game. Manager Stephen Vogt confirmed the injury after imaging tests.
Vogt said Ramirez attempted to remain in the contest. "He knew the position we were in, grabbed his glove and said, 'Maybe I can still play defense,' but he couldn't squeeze his glove," Vogt said. "Hosey wanted to get back out there to help us win that game.
Ramirez had suffered a similar fracture to his right hamate bone in 2019 and returned after one month following surgery. The Guardians placed Ramirez on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, June 14, 2026. They activated infielder Gabriel Arias from the 60-day injured list and designated outfielder George Valera for assignment.
Arias had been sidelined since April 6, 2026, with a left hamstring strain and was scheduled to start at third base before the series finale was postponed due to weather. 238 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. 274 hitter, and has finished in the top four in MVP voting five times.
He holds virtually every major team record for the Guardians. Two other Guardians outfielders also left the game with injuries. Chase DeLauter suffered a bruised right rib cage after colliding with the outfield wall.
Angel Martinez sustained a bruise after fouling a ball off his foot. When Ramirez exited, Cleveland was without its top three hitters in the batting order, forcing manager Stephen Vogt to move first baseman Rhys Hoskins to left field for the first time since 2018.
