Jury Selection Starts Monday in Harvey Weinstein's Manhattan Retrial on Sex Crime Charges

Jury selection for the new trial will start on Tuesday. The new trial is expected to last two weeks. Jessica Mann will testify in Manhattan Supreme Court. Jessica Mann first met Harvey Weinstein after moving to Los Angeles to launch her acting career in late 2012.

Jessica Mann alleges that Weinstein raped her in a New York City hotel in 2013; Weinstein has denied the accusation, and a prior retrial jury deadlocked on this charge. This will mark Jessica Mann's third time testifying that Harvey Weinstein forced her to have sex at the Doubletree Hotel in Midtown on March 18, 2013. Harvey Weinstein, aged 74, faces one count of third-degree rape.

Weinstein was convicted of raping Jessica Mann following his first sex crimes trial in 2020.

In the 2020 trial, prosecutors charged Weinstein with assaulting women seeking career advancement in the film industry, a conviction later overturned by New York's highest court. Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after the 2020 conviction. The trial judge in the 2020 case allowed three additional women to testify, even though Weinstein was not charged for their allegations.

New York's highest court overturned Harvey Weinstein's conviction on that and other counts in April 2024. This decision led to the need for a retrial. The district attorney retried Harvey Weinstein on the same case last spring.

The re-trial added a new accuser, former Polish model Kaja Sokola. Jurors at last year's re-trial were unable to decide whether to convict Harvey Weinstein on the third-degree rape charge after a week of deliberations.

Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Curtis Farber will preside over the trial.

Harvey Weinstein will be represented by attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Jacob Kaplan. Marc Agnifilo and Jacob Kaplan are attorneys for Luigi Mangione and Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Harvey Weinstein split from longtime lawyer Arthur Aidala earlier this year.
