A Department of Justice attorney stated in court filings Friday that a proposed $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund has not been set up and is now not going forward. The filings were submitted in response to lawsuits challenging the fund. One filing argued that the lawsuits are now moot because the fund will not be created.

Fund The Justice Department had announced the fund last month.

Officials described it as compensation for individuals who allege they were wrongly targeted under the prior administration. The announcement tied the fund's creation to the resolution of separate legal claims, including a $10 billion suit against the IRS and two civil claims totaling $230 million.

The Justice Department has not provided further details on whether any replacement program will be considered. In a pair of legal filings Friday, the Justice Department stated in writing for what appears to be the first time that the controversial fund will not continue.
