Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily posted an Instagram video thanking supporters after their May 2026 settlement with Blake Lively. The couple addressed the two-year legal dispute and their focus on healing.
pbs.orgJustin Baldoni and his wife Emily released a video on Instagram thanking fans for support during a painful period. The 42-year-old actor said they had not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years because it never felt like the right time. Baldoni added that after talking and praying with his wife, the moment now felt appropriate to address the matter.
Emily Baldoni said the couple felt immense gratitude for many people and things. Baldoni stated that gratitude had saved them and that they wanted to let the justice system run its course rather than add to the noise. Emily noted that the truth and facts had spoken for themselves while acknowledging the injustice and pain the family had felt.
The couple said healing is not linear and that they have had to rethink what matters, including family, friends, community, and faith. Emily said they would focus for now on healing and spending time with their children. Baldoni thanked supporters and said love shows up when everything else is stripped away.
The legal dispute began in December 2024 when Blake Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni sued Lively and Ryan Reynolds for defamation in January 2025 and also sued the New York Times for libel. A judge dismissed Baldoni’s $400-million defamation claim against Lively and Reynolds last June.
Baldoni and Lively settled the lawsuit in May 2026 just before a trial was scheduled to start in federal court in Manhattan. Lively received no money in the settlement. A judge later ruled that Lively is entitled to recover some legal costs incurred after Baldoni filed a countersuit.
Last week Lively’s legal team filed documents seeking more than US$8 million in costs from Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios. The filing disclosed $7,495,526.87 in lawyer fees from two firms and $539,514.01 in other expenses. Baldoni and Wayfarer have until July 13 to respond to the motion.
