Justin Verlander Suffers Hamstring Injury While Recovering From Hip Issue

Justin Verlander suffered a hamstring injury while recovering from a prior hip injury, according to CBS Sports reporting. J. Hinch said the setback will sideline the pitcher for weeks rather than days.

The 43-year-old has made just one start in the 2026 season. That appearance came on March 30, when Verlander allowed five runs on six hits in 3 ⅔ innings. Verlander stated he remains committed to completing the 2026 season with the Tigers.

"At this point, I'm in the middle of a season. You guys have known me long enough," he said. "There's no giving up. " Verlander added that his family situation is influencing his thinking about the future.

"My son is turning one today, my daughter is seven," he said. " Verlander was selected second overall in the 2004 MLB Draft out of Old Dominion. He made his MLB debut on July 4, 2005. 14 WHIP, and 3,554 strikeouts in 3,571 ⅓ innings.

58 ERA and 244 strikeouts in 226 innings. Verlander ranks 37th all-time in wins and eighth all-time in strikeouts. He is 20 strikeouts from passing Don Sutton for seventh place on the career list.
