Comedian Whitney Cummings delivered the line "Donald Trump couldn’t make it tonight" at the end of her set during the June 28 Mark Twain Prize ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, after which the venue requested its removal from the Netflix broadcast.

The 46-year-old recounted on the July 18 episode of her "Good For You" podcast that staff told her their boss is President Donald Trump and that the joke had to be cut to protect jobs and avoid a potential lawsuit. She said she was presented with a choice between keeping the joke and risking staff positions.
The Netflix broadcast is scheduled to stream July 21. A Netflix spokesperson told Variety that the Kennedy Center holds the contractual right to make such cuts. Cummings posted on X that Netflix did not remove any material from her set.
