Kenny Dalglish announced Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer. The 75-year-old former Liverpool player and manager said the disclosure followed an accidental social media post earlier in the day. “Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well,” Dalglish stated.

” “Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected,” he added. Dalglish made 515 appearances as a player for Liverpool and managed the club in two stints that covered 381 matches.

He recorded 172 goals and 171 assists for the Reds between 1977 and 1990, contributing to eight league championships, four League Cups, three European Cups and one European Super Cup.

He began his managerial career in 1985 as player-manager after Joe Fagan resigned following the Heysel Stadium disaster. Dalglish was knighted in 2018. Before joining Liverpool, Dalglish made 320 appearances for Celtic starting in 1967.

Internationally, he earned 102 caps for Scotland, the most of any player, and scored 30 goals. ” The announcement came two days after Kevin Keegan, whom Liverpool had replaced Dalglish with as manager, revealed he has stage four cancer.
