Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi broke the men's 1,000m world record on his first attempt at the distance during Friday's Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Wanyonyi finished in 2 minutes 11.83 seconds, shaving 0.13 seconds off the previous mark set by compatriot Noah Ngeny in 1999. Jake Wightman of Great Britain placed second in a personal best of 2 minutes 12.77 seconds.
Jack cleared 2.30 meters to finish second in the men's high jump on his Diamond League debut. Ukraine's Oleh Doroshchuk won the event. Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain finished fourth in the men's 400m. Botswana's Collen Kebinatshipi set a Diamond League record of 43.44 seconds to win the race.
Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred won the women's 200m in 21.51 seconds, the third-fastest time in history. World record holder Armand Duplantis cleared 6.07 meters to set a meeting record in the pole vault. The next Diamond League meeting is scheduled for London on 18 July.
