King Charles Hosts Reception at St James's Palace on Super Pollutants

GB News reported that King Charles hosted a reception at St James's Palace for approximately 250 guests focused on super pollutants. The event took place in the Throne Room and was organized by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. COP29 president Mukhtar Babayev praised King Charles for the gathering.
Azerbaijan's ambassador to London Elin Suleymanov posted on social media that the King's commitment to the environment is a global inspiration. GB News noted that King Charles has spent more than 50 years publicly addressing environmental issues and the importance of meeting government Net Zero targets.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, and Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley each delivered speeches before King Charles arrived.
The King then toured exhibition stalls hosted by the Clean Air Task Force, Clean Air Fund, and Wellcome Trust. GB News reported that the United Kingdom assumed co-chairmanship of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition in March 2024 alongside Brazil. The coalition comprises more than 200 governments, NGOs, and international organizations and focuses on super pollutants including methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and tropospheric ozone.
Reducing these pollutants could limit global temperature rise by as much as 0.6 degrees Celsius by 2050, according to GB News, while also improving public health, crop yields, food security, and energy systems. King Charles used a handheld fan during the event due to record-breaking heat inside the palace.
On the same day, GB News reported that King Charles met the Afghan Refugee Women's Cricket Team at Clarence House and visited a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy in Hammersmith supporting military veterans and emergency service personnel.
