King Charles III has paid more than £30 million in personal income taxes since ascending the throne in September 2022. The figure equals approximately $39.6 million. The disclosure is the first time a reigning British monarch has publicly released details of personal income taxes paid.
The payments cover income from the Duchy of Lancaster, private estates at Balmoral and Sandringham, and personal investments.7 million. The amount rose to £12.9 million in 2024–2025, a 10.3 percent increase.
From September 2022 to the end of March 2023, he paid more than £5.4 million. The palace's Sovereign Grant Report showed the monarchy's annual public funding will fall to £99.9 million per year for the five years from 2027 to 2032. The grant stands at £132.1 million for 2025–2026 and will rise to £137.9 million in 2026–2027 before the reduction.
A portion of the 2026–2027 grant funds the final year of Buckingham Palace refurbishment work. King Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue to use Clarence House as their London residence after the refurbishment ends. Buckingham Palace will remain a working royal residence and ceremonial center with expanded public access.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee wrote to the Crown Estate and the Treasury in October 2025 seeking details of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's lease of Royal Lodge and announced in December 2025 that the correspondence would form the basis of a new inquiry into the Crown Estate.
