Kiwoom Heroes Catcher Hits Grand Slam in 6-0 Win Over SSG Landers

Kiwoom Heroes catcher Kim Gun-hee hit his first career grand slam Thursday to lead the team to a 6-0 win over the SSG Landers at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. The 21-year-old catcher also called a strong game behind the plate for starter Raul Alcantara, who pitched eight shutout innings. Kim has now hit three home runs and driven in eight runs over his past four games.

Kim said he had struggled earlier this season and sometimes stayed overnight at the stadium after poor performances. He said he sought advice from older teammates and tried to improve his approach at the plate. Kim added that his coaches told him his offense is a bonus because of his defensive work. He said he now feels more relaxed and sleeps better at night.

The Heroes improved to 19-26-1 and moved out of last place for the first time since May 2. They now trail the final postseason spot by 3½ games. Kim said the team's goal is to reach the postseason and play meaningful games in the fall. He said the current atmosphere in the clubhouse is positive and that everyone is having fun.
