The New York Knicks agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with veteran center Andre Drummond on Friday, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. The move comes after former Knicks backup center Mitchell Robinson reached a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the Boston Celtics. Knicks chairman James Dolan said he would not allow the team to enter the punitive luxury tax second apron.
background Drummond's on-court production is similar to what Robinson gave the Knicks last season, especially as a rebounder. As a member of the Detroit Pistons, Drummond led the NBA in offensive rebounds per game for seven straight seasons. Drummond has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers.
During the past two seasons, he backed up Joel Embiid in Philadelphia.
