Season-long adjustments Mike Brown said after Game 2 that coaching Towns required repeated compromise. Brown stated that when a player is considered great, the coach must make additional adjustments. Towns had been benched in the fourth quarter at times during the regular season and saw reduced usage in some closing lineups.
Brown shifted Towns into a larger playmaking role beginning in the first-round series against Atlanta.
Performance in the Finals Towns has operated as a central offensive option against San Antonio, while Jalen Brunson has recorded the decisive baskets in both games. Brown said the staff continues to adjust schemes on both ends of the floor to accommodate all players.
Towns had been discussed in possible salary-matching scenarios involving Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the year. His current production has placed him in early consideration for Finals MVP alongside Brunson.
