The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals on June 13 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points to lead the comeback from a 16-point deficit. The victory gave the Knicks their first NBA championship in 53 years.
Brunson was named series MVP. A floater he made with 1:05 remaining gave New York a 90-88 lead in the fourth quarter. The Knicks held on despite a tight finish. Timothée Chalamet yelled, “Way rather this than the Oscars, c’mon, baby!
” during the trophy ceremony. He later held up a mockup of The New York Post in a photo with Mikal Bridges on the court and hugged Knicks great Allan Houston and owner James Dolan. ” Chalamet screamed in a video shared on social media.
Spike Lee was shown on the ESPN broadcast yelling among friends in the stands immediately after the final buzzer. He hugged actor John Turturro on the broadcast and was later seen with Turturro and fellow fan Tracy Morgan hugging Knicks players and staff. Lee became a season-ticket holder in 1985; his first game was Patrick Ewing’s first game.
He received his first NBA title 41 years later. Walt “Clyde” Frazier was seen smiling after the win. Patrick Ewing wore a championship hat, cheered, and hugged players during the ceremony. Ewing and Houston exchanged high-fives in the final 20 seconds.
A Knicks championship parade is scheduled for Thursday.
