The New York Knicks selected a Vanderbilt player with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft on Wednesday night. The player was at a watch party in Harrisonburg, Virginia, when his name was announced. Family members hugged him while other attendees cheered and recorded the moment.
A framed jersey hung in the background along with multiple televisions showing the draft and Vanderbilt shirts worn by supporters.
"Surreal…especially from this area, it just doesn’t happen," the player said. He added that the selection felt like a lifelong goal reached. " The player also commented on the rarity of someone from his Virginia county reaching the NBA. "It doesn’t even sound real.

The player began his college career at North Carolina before transferring to Virginia Tech. He later moved to Vanderbilt, where he started all 69 games over two seasons and helped the team reach consecutive NCAA tournaments. The player is considered unlikely to make the Knicks roster immediately and may begin his professional career in the G League.
