The Kraken acquired a 23-year-old forward from the Panthers for the No. 25 pick in Friday's NHL draft and a second-round pick next year, the teams announced Sunday. The forward recorded 64 points in 160 regular-season and playoff games.
He is a restricted free agent who needs a new contract. "Mackie is a talented young player who we are excited to bring into the fold," a Kraken general manager said. "He has speed, skill and scoring ability.
The trade gives the Kraken an addition after they missed the playoffs for the fourth time in their five years of existence. The No. 25 pick originally belonged to a rival team, while the second-round pick will be the higher of two other clubs' selections.
The forward was selected with the 24th pick in the 2021 draft and later played at Michigan alongside a Kraken teammate.
