Kyle Schwarber to lead off for NL in All-Star Game

Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies will lead off for the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game after designated hitter Shohei Ohtani withdrew to undergo a knee procedure. Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene, New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice, and Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger were added to the American League starting lineup because of injuries to other players.

Rice starts at first base after Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. withdrew to rest a back injury and the Athletics' Nick Kurtz sprained a thumb. Bellinger replaced Yankees teammate Aaron Judge, who has been out since May 31 with a fractured rib. Bellinger will start in right field and Greene in left field.

Philadelphia left-hander Cristopher Sanchez and Toronto right-hander Dylan Cease were announced as the starting pitchers on Sunday. Sanchez will be the 14th pitcher to start an All-Star Game in his home ballpark and the first Phillies starter since Roy Halladay in 2011.

The National League lineup includes New York Mets left fielder Juan Soto batting second, followed by Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, Atlanta second baseman Ozzie Albies, Phillies right fielder Brandon Marsh, Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages, and Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.
