Kyler Murray Throws Two Interceptions in Vikings Minicamp
The quarterback said splitting practice reps with J.J. McCarthy has been the hardest part of joining Minnesota after seven seasons in Arizona.
yardbarker.comKyler Murray threw two interceptions during 7-on-7 drills at the Minnesota Vikings' mandatory minicamp on Tuesday in Eagan, Minn. J. McCarthy received roughly the same number of repetitions with the starters, ESPN reported.
The session marked Murray's seventh practice with the Vikings since signing with the team. Murray said the most difficult part of the transition from Arizona has been splitting reps with McCarthy and the rest of the Vikings' quarterbacks. "I was [in Arizona] for seven years," Murray said.
"I know I had two different offensive systems [there], but at the same time, you're getting all those reps. It's me already being behind, not getting the amount of reps that you would typically want a guy to get learning an offense. " The first interception resulted from a miscommunication with tight end Gavin Bartholomew, who broke outside as Murray threw toward the middle of the field; safety Theo Jackson caught the ball.
The second pass sailed over the hands of receiver Jauan Jennings and was intercepted by cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. Murray said he has embraced the discomfort of competing for the starting job. "I've kind of just went full head of steam and embraced the part of being uncomfortable," he said.
Murray added that he is "not really too worried about the competition side of things" and has tried to give himself grace during the adjustment period. McCarthy, who was drafted by the Vikings in 2024, said he still feels the same way about the organization as he did when he was selected.
