Police Receive New Information on West Ham Co-Owner Allegations
Essex Police said they have received new information and begun enquiries after a BBC and Times investigation detailed multiple allegations against the co-owner. The co-owner resigned his position and denied the claims. Officials from the Football Association and the club met with the Culture Secretary to discuss the handling of prior safeguarding concerns.
The BbcEssex Police said they have received new information and begun enquiries after a BBC and Times investigation published on Monday detailed multiple allegations against the co-owner. The investigation reported that eight women have made disclosures to police about the co-owner's conduct dating back to the 1980s. None of those cases have resulted in charges.
" In a statement issued on Wednesday, the co-owner said he had never met any academy or women's team players "1-2-1" during his 16 years at the club. He described the earlier restriction as a "meaningless restriction" that did not affect his work. The co-owner has been subject to restrictions on contact with the women's and youth teams for three years following an allegation raised with the Football Association in 2023.
Those restrictions had not been public. Boyle Sports, one of the club's main sponsors, said it had not been made aware of the restrictions and was "extremely concerned at the serious nature of the allegations levelled against" the co-owner. The Football Association and the club have previously stated they maintain clear and robust safeguarding measures.
