Lauren Sánchez Bezos Named 2026 Met Gala Co-Chair

Lauren Sánchez Bezos attended the 2026 Met Gala on Monday night as co-chair, wearing a navy-blue off-the-shoulder Schiaparelli gown with jeweled straps, a deep V-neckline, and back ties designed to evoke a corset. She walked the red carpet alongside Anna Wintour and Nicole Kidman at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos served as sponsors and co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, the first private individuals to do so since Blackstone CEO Stephen A. Schwarzman and his wife Christine Hearst Schwarzman helped fund the event in 2018. Anna Wintour requested Sánchez Bezos’ sponsorship. Following the couple’s wedding in Venice, Wintour featured Sánchez Bezos on the digital cover of Vogue.

Weeks of protests took place in New York City ahead of the event. The group Everyone Hates Elon posted boycott signs and displays criticizing the couple’s involvement, citing Amazon’s working conditions and the company’s ties to ICE. Boycott posters appeared across the city. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos had previously attended the Met Gala but had not walked the red carpet together.

Sánchez Bezos told “Today” that she was “honored” to serve as co-chair of the 2026 Met Gala and was excited to celebrate “true artists” under the “Costume Art” theme. “It’s going to be incredible to see what everyone wears and to be able to really honor all these designers,” she said.

The gown referenced John Singer Sargent’s 1884 painting “Madame X,” a portrait of Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau in which one strap originally slipped from the subject’s shoulder, prompting the artist to repaint it after public reaction.

Sánchez Bezos previously wore an Alexander McQueen pantsuit with visible lace bra detailing to Donald Trump’s 2025 presidential inauguration. In an interview with The New York Times published April 11, 2026, she stated, “No lace at the White House.”
