Republican Lawmaker Urges Probe of White Nationalist Group After D.C. March

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna called for a congressional investigation into the white nationalist group Patriot Front after roughly 400 of its members marched through Washington, D.C., over the Independence Day weekend. Luna wrote on X that the group appeared well funded yet had not faced scrutiny in prior years. She urged the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to examine the organization.

The demonstrators wore matching khaki pants, navy shirts, white face coverings, and hats while carrying American flags, some flown upside down, and Confederate flags. Police monitored the event near the Capitol and Eastern Market. Patriot Front was founded in 2017 by Thomas Rousseau after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The group advocates a white ethnostate and has distributed the majority of white supremacist propaganda since 2019, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

" Rep. Buddy Carter told CNN that the demonstration "does not represent the soul of America" and does not reflect Republican Party values. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said on CNN that he disagreed with the group’s ideology but noted that free speech protections apply.
