League executives name top offseason roster moves

League executives identified several roster transactions completed since late February as their preferred offseason moves. The selections covered trades, free-agent signings and draft choices made through April.

Wide receiver acquisition One personnel executive said a wide receiver trade made sense because the player fit an offensive scheme that emphasizes short-to-intermediate routes and occasional deep targets. The acquiring team gave up a first-round pick, a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick while receiving a fourth-round pick in return.

The same executive noted the player's contract, which carries roughly $41 million in remaining obligations over two years, improved the deal's value.

Defensive end trade Executives also cited a trade that sent a veteran pass rusher to a team preparing for a home Super Bowl. The sending team received a former first-round defensive lineman, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick. One NFC scout said the sending team recognized its roster still lacked a long-term quarterback solution.

Draft selection A first-round selection of a wide receiver drew mixed internal reactions but still appeared on multiple executives' lists. The choice occurred after the team had already added other offensive skill players earlier in the offseason.
