New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart made two of three three-point attempts in a July 11 game against the Minnesota Lynx. The performance follows a period of improved shooting after earlier struggles. The team also dealt with rebounding issues and an injury to Leonie Fiebich.
nypost.comNew York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart hit two three-point shots in a July 11 game against the Minnesota Lynx, nypost.com reported. She opened the contest with a transition three-pointer and added another after a pass from Sabrina Ionescu at the top of the key. Stewart finished 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Stewart had shot 17.6 percent from three-point range across the Liberty's first 17 games of the season. She made 7 of 16 attempts in her prior five games. She told nypost.com that she began paying fines of $20 to player development director Andrew Wade for short attempts, including one in a loss to the Dallas Wings.
Stewart said the work she puts in will show in her shooting performance. She and Wade continue to work in the gym on her shot, she added. Rebounding remained a problem for the Liberty, who allow 9.2 offensive rebounds per game, seventh-most in the WNBA.
The Lynx secured 15 offensive rebounds in the game, six in the fourth quarter. Stewart said rebounding is a problem the team needs to address. Liberty coach Chris DeMarco said the team does not think Leonie Fiebich has a fracture in her left foot.
Fiebich has missed two straight games with soreness after an MRI earlier in the week, and the team is seeking additional opinions.
