The Tampa Bay Lightning signed defenseman John Carlson to a two-year contract, the team announced Wednesday. Carlson, 36, agreed to an $8.5 million salary cap hit after completing an eight-year deal that carried an $8 million average annual value. He had been selected 27th overall by the Capitals in 2008 and spent 17 seasons with that organization before a trade to the Anaheim Ducks last season.
Carlson's move Carlson recorded 14 points in 16 regular-season games and six points in 12 playoff games with Anaheim. He requested a return to the Eastern Conference, leading the Ducks to trade his negotiating rights to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday for prospect Kyle Masters and a sixth-round pick.
Carlson and the Hurricanes did not reach contract terms, placing him on the unrestricted free agent market Wednesday.
Raddysh had posted 70 points in 73 games last season. Carlson has accumulated 785 points in 1,159 career games with a plus-112 rating.
