Limerick defeated Galway in the 2026 All-Ireland hurling final at Croke Park to claim its 13th title in the county's history and its first since 2023, bbc.co.uk reported. Manager John Kiely said the result brought great satisfaction and a shared sense of joy. He recalled playing on Limerick teams that lost the 1994 and 1996 finals and described the lasting hurt from those defeats.
Kiely said the panel began training together on 15 November and took five days off over Christmas during the 2025-2026 season. The group maintained an intense schedule after that point. Wing-back Diarmaid Byrnes scored four points in the final.
He said sharing a dressing room with the Limerick players is a privilege. The victory followed a 2024 semi-final loss and a 2025 quarter-final exit.
