Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has received the endorsement of the International Alliance of Theatrical State Employees for her reelection primary next month. The California IATSE Council said in a statement on Wednesday that Bass has supported film and television workers throughout her career.

The statement noted she wrote California's original film and television production tax credit while serving as speaker of the California Assembly. The council also said Bass has worked to bring production jobs back to Los Angeles more than anyone else in city government.

Bass has also received endorsements from Teamsters 399 and the American Federation of Musicians Local 47.

The backing of labor groups may help in a low-turnout primary, as unions can provide organizational strength to increase voter participation. IATSE cited Bass' efforts to streamline permitting and support for expanded tax credits. The flight of production jobs from the region has been a central focus in the race.

Her main rivals, Councilmember Nithya Raman and reality show personality Spencer Pratt, have proposed their own plans to boost production.
