Los Angeles Museum to Offer Free Annual Passes to Nearby Residents
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open Sept. 22 and provide free renewable passes to households in the 90037 ZIP code. The $1 billion facility will display more than 1,300 objects and include 11 acres of public space.

The renewable passes allow holders to reserve a pair of tickets. The 300,000-square-foot building sits at the northern edge of the ZIP code inside Exposition Park. Census data show the three-square-mile area contains more than 17,000 households, with a quarter of residents living below the poverty line.
The museum will display more than 1,300 objects drawn from the original Lucasfilm archives retained after the 2012 sale of the company. Works on view range from Norman Rockwell and Jack Kirby to Frida Kahlo and local artist Judith Baca. Landscape architect Mia Lehrer designed the 11-acre grounds, which include gardens and public spaces intended for neighborhood use.
The building was designed by architect Ma Yansong.
Context The museum opens eight years after construction began on the site.
It follows the April opening of LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries and coincides with renovation closures at the Getty Center and La Brea Tar Pits & Museum.
